Providenciales - South Caicos Ferry
TCI Ferry Service is very happy to announce the introduction of a new twice weekly ferry service to South Caicos. The new service will bridge the gap between the Turks & Caicos Islands making it easy and convenient for not only residents but also tourist to take the comfortable 90 minute ride to THE BIG SOUTH. South Caicos has lots to offer visitors with some of the most stunning scenery in all of the Turks & Caicos Islands.
From December through to April, North Atlantic humpback whales migrate through the Columbus Passage that separates South Caicos and Grand Turk. You can literally sit and watch these incredible animals as they pass on their way south to breed and nurse their young in the Silver Banks off the Dominican Republic.
There is world class snorkeling and diving ‘off the beach’ or a short boat ride away. Spend the day amazed at what you see on the unspoilt reefs and the amazing 7000ft reef wall.
Wander around the sleepy town of Cockburn Harbor and meet with the locals. South Caicos has a thriving fishing, conch and lobster industry, so have lunch or dinner in one of the local restaurants and enjoy fresh fish and local produce the way it should be.
The rich history of South Caicos has seen rogues and royalty. Queen Elisabeth II stayed in the 18th Century Commissioner’s House during her visit in 1966, and the town reflects its Bermudian and British heritage with many examples of the classic architectural design.
The old saltpans that once made South Caicos the islands' largest producer of salt, have become the home of a wide variety of bird species including flocks of flamingos. Don’t be surprised to bump into wild donkeys during your travels on South.
Other activities for visitors in South Caicos include, kayaking & stand up paddle boarding through the mangroves, bone fishing, deep sea fishing. Visit Long Cay to see the Iguanas, trek along the North shore or just relax on one of the many beautiful deserted beaches.
The island hosts the annual BIG SOUTH Regatta in May each year.
